Safety in the School Yard

SAFETY IN THE SCHOOL YARD

In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all of our children we ask that parents do not linger in the school yard. We understand that you may wish to escort your Kindergarten child to the gated area. However, we ask that once you have dropped them off, that you leave them in our care. In the morning, we have several staff members in the Kindergarten area ready to watch your child. If you are picking up your child from the primary yard at day’s end, please stay behind the fence. If you are picking up your child at a portable, please stay off the field and away from portable windows and the walkway between the portable and portapack; students get distracted if they see parents. This makes it difficult for the teacher to keep children engaged until the last lesson of the day is complete. Further, having other adults in the school yard makes it difficult for the supervisors to ensure the safety of the children – they will not be able to easily determine who is a stranger and this puts the children at risk. As well you are a stranger to the other children and this may cause them undue anxiety. We also ask that you do not bring your dog on school property – we have children with animal allergies and some who are quite fearful of dogs.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation on these important safety measures.
